The Pilipinos in Engineering (PIE) society is a UCLA campus organization that was started in 1993 by three individuals who were concerned with issues that Pilipino engineering students face in the UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Science. Robert Gaspar, Guiller Espinosa, and Harriet Florentino, had the goal of a giving fellow UCLA engineering students the resources and help that they needed to elevate their situation here on campus and reach success upon graduation.

As a demographic that is considered too few by current Pilipino groups that offer assistance to Letters & Science students and too many by current engineering groups that offer assistance to minority students, Pilipino engineers are limited in the present resources to face among the individualistic, highly competitive environment at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. In order to better include students from all STEM fields, the name was formally changed in 2016 to Pilipinos In Engineering and Science (PIES).

Our Mission
Pilipinos in Engineering and Science (PIES) is dedicated to creating opportunities for UCLA students to become a part of this growing industry and to increase Pilipino representation within Engineering and the Applied Sciences. With a growing sector in technology development, there is a need for Pilipino representation to be seen as equals to other ethnicities and major contributors to the development of surrounding communities.
Our Vision
To ensure PIES’ success in fulfilling its purpose, PIES must be dedicated to the personal and professional growth of its general members, specifically through its four pillars: Pilipino, Innovation, Education, and Social.
