Why did you join PIES?

I joined PIES because I was searching for a community of people who were similar to me, Filipino and in STEM.  Being Filipino and in STEM seems like a niche club but I was amazed to find a group of supportive, fun, and inspiring people to help me settle into my first years at college.

Why did you join PIES?

I joined PIES because I wanted to find a way to connect more with my Filipino identity and was searching for a group of people that made me feel like I belonged at UCLA (being a STEM club was a plus too!). PIES has been such a lovely, welcoming community/family these past couple of years, and I cannot express my gratitude enough for this club!

Why did you join PIES?

I joined PIES too because I felt it was a perfect fit as a Filipino STEM major. As the sum of its parts, it was a lot less intimidating than the larger communities, so it felt easier to take part in activities and socials. But ultimately, I continued to keep choosing PIES because of the people and overall uplifting community I get to now help foster.

Why did you join PIES?

I joined midyear after one of my friends spontaneously invited me to go to the winter DTLA social last year! I only really knew one person when I showed up that day and I was super nervous, but I wanted to meet new people and explore more of the Pilipinx spaces at UCLA. I ended up making so many new friends in just 12 hours. After such an enjoyable experience, I knew that I wanted to be more involved in PIES.

Why did you join PIES?
